Getting Around: There are blue shuttle buses that run up and down the strip and run all day, every 15 minutes or so, but not all night.  I highly recommend it when traffic is heavy – the shuttle has its own traffic lane!  It also allows you to not worry about/pay for parking (expensive at the oceanfront).  It is only $2 a ride but for $4, you can ride all day and that night (unlimited).  A 3 day pass is $8.  The best place to buy passes is Sunsations gift shops, as there are many of these.  Children under 38” ride free.  Please be advised they don’t give change on the bus, have ones ready if not buying a pass.  A schedule and route info/maps can be seen at: www.gohrt.com/services/vb-wave .  Route 30 goes up and down the strip.  There is also separate shuttle (Route 31) that goes to the Aquarium Science Museum (www.virginiaaquarium.com); Outdoor Adventure Park (www.virginiabeachadventurepark.com); Ocean Breeze Waterpark (https://www.oceanbreezewaterpark.com/); and Motorworld Go Carting (www.vbmotorworld.com).  A third shuttle goes to Lynnhaven Mall and other shopping on Laskin Road (Route 32).

Grocery Stores: There are small stores on Atlantic Avenue that have all the basics every two blocks or so, such as Sunsations (5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 19th, 24th and 33rd Street)

Beer and wine can be purchased anywhere; Liquor at a state controlled “ABC” store, the closest being 213 Virginia Beach Blvd (same as 17th Street); and 405 30th Street (30th & Arctic)

Large grocery stores: Farm Fresh – 521 Laskin Road (also same as 31st Street); Food Lion – 1077 Virginia Beach Boulevard (same as 17th Street); Harris Teeter – 2800 Artctic Avenue (28th Street)

Mister Timeshare likes to buy frosty mugs for a few bucks at Walmart or Kmart and put them in the freezer, then carry them to the pool with a favorite beverage or 6

Fun Things To Do:

– Beach Street – Free entertainment from 17th to 25th street every night of the summer.  No tipping allowed.  See: www.beachstreetusa.com

– Plenty of Putt-Putt Golf (see coupon booklets available on Atlantic Avenue)

– Largest Waterslide on a beach – 24th Street

– 14th Street Fishing Pier and shops

– Oceanfront Amusement Park – 15th Street

– Family Great Adventure Series –  27th Street on the beach – Free -On select nights during the season, families can take part in an interactive adventure that leads them to various sites along the boardwalk and Atlantic Avenue to unravel a mystery.  Sometimes the adventures involve games and contests right on the beach.  During each adventure, participants can dress up as characters, use “brain and brawn” to win the contest at hand, and settle into the sand for a family-friendly movie shown on a giant inflatable screen on the beach!  Each night is themed to the particular movie being shown!  Website: http://www.beachstreetusa.com/festivals/family-great-adventure-series

– Rudee Rocket – You will see a yellow “Rocket Boat” going back and forth in the ocean – this boat has 2,000 horsepwer and goes out to sea and opens it up – some serious power.  Website: http://www.rudeerocket.com Located at 200 WINSTON SALEM AVE.

There is also a “banana boat” ride, parasailing comapnies, and a fishing center where you can charter fishing boats a block or so behind the Ocean Key Resort.  Go to 5th Street and travel away from the boardwalk – walking distance but parking is available.  I recommend taking the shuttle and getting off by Ocean Key.  200 Winston Salem Ave. Website: http://virginiafishing.com/
